Course Information
This a very unique 3-day Advanced ‘Hands On’ grafting and immediate implant placement course in collaboration with the University of Paris. After a 1 day lecture with Dr Pascal Valentini, you will have the unique experience to practice on ‘fresh cadavers’.
There are only a limited
number of places and selection is on a first come-first
serve basis.
‘What’s the big deal with using
fresh cadavers?’
Well, it is very unlike an embalmed cadaver which many of us remember from our preclinical year in Dental School. The fresh cadavers feel like the patients you will treat in your own practices. They feel very real and are not plasticky and as smelly as the embalmed cadavers.
Overview
Patients have a greater understanding of Implantology and would like to obtain a replacement tooth as soon as possible. Immediate implant placement is technique sensitive and can provide our patients with predictable aesthetic results, fast.
We often find that a number of our patients do not have the required bone volume for successful dental implant/prosthetic rehabilitation.
The selection of the appropriate bone graft material and the application of the most up to date augmentation procedures are extremely important in optimising the jawbone anatomy.
The course is clinically focused and evidence-based.
It is divided into 2 parts:
- Descriptive lectures, case presentations
- Cadaver Hands on Workshop
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, each participant will be able to:
- Recognise the indications for bone grafting
- Recognise anatomical landmarks pertinent to implant placement and bone grafting procedures
- Perform and be able to describe a ramus and symphyseal (chin) block bone graft
- Understand the techniques for block fixation
- Perform a sinus lift procedure using the external window technique
- Understand how to perform the osteotome ‘Summers’ technique
- Recognise and treat bone grafting complications
- Compare and contrast autogenous bone with Bio-Oss
- Recognise indications and complications for immediate implant placement and function
