DIPLOMA FAQS

  1. What is the specialisation course in Implantology?
And is it recognised in the UK?

The Specialisation course is a University/Government approved course which is recognised in many Countries around the World.
Unfortunately, due to GDC regulations and the fact that the GDC does not recognise Implantology as a specialist field it is not recognised by the GDC at the present time.

We believe that we are the only course in the UK which fulfils all the criteria that an implant course should provide. The document can be found in the GDC website.

However, you can write that you are a specialist on your business card as you can back it up with the University Certificate (see below).
  1. Will there be an opportunity to upgrade the specialisation course to a Masters Degree?
We are currently working hard behind the scenes to create a Masters Degree programme, so it may be possible that your credits from the specialisation course can be forwarded towards obtaining a Masters Degree.

  2. How long does the course take?
The specialisation course is a 2 year program.

  3. I have limited knowledge on implants. Do you think this course is suitable for me?
This course is suitable for absolute beginners and those at an intermediate level. We assume you have no knowledge of implants and will teach you all the basics in the first year, and then all the more advanced aspects of implant dentistry in the second year.

  4. Is there any homework?
We expect all our students to subscribe and read journals such as JOMI (included when you join the Academy of Osseointegration) and Clinical Oral Implants Research (included when you join the European Academy of Osseointegration). There will also be a distance learning component (in the 2nd year) where you will be given assignments to complete.

  5. Can I choose to do the Bronze or the Silver (Diploma Course) and then upgrade to the Specialisation course?
Unfortunately, this may not be possible due to bureaucratic paperwork.
You must be registered on the specialisation course from the beginning, because we need to register you in advance with the Department of Education, Brazil.
This is not necessary for the shorter courses.

However, you can still carry out all the modules of the specialisation course but we cannot guarantee the specialisation certificate.

  6. Is the travel or accommodation included to Brazil?
This year we have decided not to get involved with the travel process.
In previous years people have wanted to make there own plans to visit different parts of Brazil either before or after the Residencies.

We have negotiated a fantastic rate of £25-30 per night (dependant upon exchange rate) for the Hotel www.colonialplazapinda.com.br close to the University. The hotel is a beautiful resort with indoor/outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, football pitch and a gym.
