4 Day ‘Hands On’ Course in Periodontology/Implantology

This course will be taught by Pr Andre Saadoun, Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology and internationally recognised lecturer in Perio- Implantology.

He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontology at the University of Southern California, USA and has written more than 150 articles as well as chapters in several books (including the new ‘Art of Smile’).

DAY 1: Gingivo-Osseous Surgery

• Biological principles
• Initial preparation
• Anaesthesia
• Incisions
• Flaps with osseous resection
• Flaps without osseous resection
  

DAY 2: Muco-Gingival Surgery / The Smile in Periodontology

• Gingivectomy
• Pedicle flaps
• Gingival grafts
• Ridge augmentation
• Osseous and muco-gingival surgery
• Multidisciplinary treatment
• Maintenance
  

DAY 3: Hands on Sessions
              Pigs Jaws:

• Different types of incisions will be described for the treatment of periodontal defects
• Different types of incisions will be described for the treatment of muco-gingival defects:
  How to harvest an epithelio-connective tissue graft,
  How to handle a double papilla,
  Tunnelling techniques
  

Plastic Models:

• The use of different curettes will be demonstrated for scaling and root planning
• The different types of suturing techniques will be described :
  Single / multiple / interrupted sutures,
  Single horizontal / vertical mattress sutures,
  Continuous sling horizontal or vertical suture,
  Interlocking continuous sutures

                       
DAY 4: Current Biological Trends in Aesthetic Perio-Implantology

• Periodontal biological parameters
• New trends in periodontal treatment
• Implant biological parameters
• New trends in implant treatment

This course will be carried out on pigs’ heads and synthetic models.
Students will be required to have their own overalls, masks, gloves, sutures, blades, and basic periodontal instruments (recommended list).

Course Objectives:

• Understand the Basic Periodontal principles
• Learn how to prepare your patients for perio- treatment
• Learn the principles behind the different incisions and suturing techniques
• Understand and learn how to treat common periodontal defects
• Learn how to treat muco-gingival defects, how to harvest an epithelio-connective tissue graft, a connective tissue graft, and many more types of treatment
• Learn and see how to use important products such as Bio-Oss, Emdogain and Alloderm
